Jewelry Materials

No Mass Production

We founded Summarii with the belief of making high quality jewelry accessible to everyone.

We aim to provide jewelry designs with authentic and fairly mined materials while reducing as much as possible the social and environmental impacts of our pieces.

This is also why all our jewelry are handcrafted by local manufacturers and artisans in a very limited quantity of stock.

Sterling Silver

Silver is a precious metal just like gold and platinum. Pure Silver (100%) is too soft for everyday wear -  it would bend and scratch easily.

That's why sterling silver jewelry is made of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% alloy metals. The added harder metals make the silver much more stronger, scratch-resistant and durable, helping the jewelry last and stay shiny. Sterling silver is also nickel-free so it makes the jewelry hypoallergenic and safer for sensitive skin.

All our sterling silver pieces are polished and dipped in Rhodium, which is one of the costliest precious metals. This provides a tough and protective layer against tarnishing and an extra bright finishing.

Stamps Of Quality: All our sterling silver jewelry designs are stamped with "S925" or "925 Silver" mark to certify the sterling silver authenticity and purity.

Yes, sterling silver can tarnish over time meaning it might darken or look dull. This happens because silver reacts with sulfur compounds in the air and sometimes from your skin's pH.

But the good news are:

  • Tarnish is only on the surface, it doesn’t damage the silver itself.
  • It can be easily cleaned with gentle silver polishing cloths.
  • Proper storage and care can dramatically slow down tarnishing.

Key Features:

  • Silver is a precious metal but pure silver is too soft for everyday wear.
  • Sterling silver = 92.5% pure silver + 7.5% alloy metals.
  • All our sterling silver jewelry are polished and dipped in rhodium for extra shine and protection.
  • They are nickel-free, hypoallergenic and safer for sensitive skin.
  • They might darken or look dull over time but can easily be cleaned with silver polishing cloths.

Gold Vermeil

Gold vermeil (pronounced ‘ver-may’) is a type of jewelry that uses sterling silver (92.5% pure silver) as base metal, which is then coated with a thick layer of gold by electroplating process. This technique combines the richness of real gold with the strength of silver, offering you the luxurious look and feel of solid gold at a more accessible price.

Gold Vermeil is also hypoallergenic and safer for sensitive skin. It's much more durable and higher quality than the standard gold plated jewelry because the silver is wrapped in a thick layer of gold which prevents it from tarnishing.

All our gold vermeil jewelry designs are stamped with "S925" or "925 Silver" mark to certify the sterling silver authenticity and purity.

Yes, gold vermeil can tarnish over time but not in the same way as silver.

The gold layer itself doesn't tarnish easily, but the base sterling silver underneath can influence it. Over time, if the gold layer becomes very thin from wear, sweat, chemicals, friction, etc., you might see slight dullness or even silver peeking through in the most exposed areas.

If you clean your gold vermeil jewelry gently, you can remove the surface dirt and restore the shine without affecting the gold layer.

But if the gold layer is already very thin or you scrub aggressively/use harsh polishing cloths or chemicals, you can wear away the gold layer, and the silver underneath will start to show.

Once enough gold wears off, yes it would essentially become a sterling silver jewelry piece unless you re-plate it.

Key Features:

  • Base Metal: Sterling silver
  • Process: Electroplating that consists of depositing and bonding a thick layer of real gold.
  • Gold Purity: Often 14k or 18k, sometimes 24k.
  • Gold Thickness: The gold layer is 2.5 microns thick which is much thicker than regular gold plating.
  • Nickel-free, hypoallergenic and safer for sensitive skin.

Cubic Zirconia

Shine without mine!

Cruelty-free zirconia stones have almost the same brilliance and clarity as diamonds and will keep their sparkle forever. This synthetic crystalline substance is created by melting powered zirconium and powered zirconium dioxide together.

Known for being affordable, beautiful, we only use AAAA superior quality cubic zircons for our jewelry pieces. You'll notice the differences in quality, clarity, durability, and brilliance of the finished stones.

Freshwater Pearls

Freshwater pearls come from freshwater mussels and oysters. Every cultured pearl is unique and varies in color and shape from baroque to near-round. They have a very thick nacre layer, which gives them a beautiful luster and shine.

Note:

Pearl jewelry should be the last thing you put on before going out and the first thing you take off when you come home.

Do not wipe culture pearls with silver polishing cloth! Use a soft and clean cotton cloth after each wear.

Avoid direct contact with chemicals found in perfume or other cosmetics.

Store individually in a dry place when not worn.
