Jewelry Care Guide

To preserve your jewelry's shine and durability, you should avoid

- Chemicals such as cosmetics, perfume or lotion

- Contact with chlorine and saltwater

- Excessive perspiration

Remove your jewelry before swimming, as chemicals used to treat pools may damage your jewelry pieces. Cooler temperatures can make your fingers shrink, and your rings may slip off.

Remove also your jewelry pieces before exercising as excessive perspiration can tarnish and discolor your jewelry. It's also for your own safety to prevent injuries.

Remove your jewelry before showering, as soaps, shampoos, etc. can affect the lustrous surface of your jewels. If you prefer to keep your jewelry on, it is important to stay on top of routine maintenance.

Separate jewelry by metals to prevent them from tarnishing when they interact with one another.

Clean your jewelry before you store it: storing dirty jewelry for a prolonged period may cause tarnishing.

Find a dry (and dark) spot to store your jewelry: humidity is jewelry’s enemy! Store in our drawers or cupboard.

Make sure the pieces do not touch each other, or scratching might occur.

About Tarnishing

First, you should know that gold plated jewelry will tarnish over time because of the nature of the metal that's more fragile and susceptible to losing color.

For gold vermeil, which is gold plated over sterling silver, tarnish will happen but as the base metal is sterling silver, it'll become a sterling silver piece once you clean the tarnishing part.

The speed at which this color fades will depend on various factors, such as the use of chemical products on the skin, how much the wearer sweats, or even the pH level of the individual’s skin.

For this reason, it is particularly important to ensure suitable care of your gold vermeil jewelry.

Keep in mind that only real gold jewelry ( not gold-plated, nor gold-filled ) won't tarnish and will last forever.

Sterling silver naturally tarnishes with exposure to air, that's a natural oxidation process.

Our sterling silver is polished and dipped in rhodium for extra protection, but the color will still fade over time.

You can use our silver polishing cloth to remove the dirt and it'll be as new.

How to clean?

Every Summarii order will come with a silver polishing cloth.

Use the cloth to clean up the deposit on the jewelry surface by gently rubbing it in a circular motion.

Most tarnish will be easily removed by using our silver polishing cloth.

If you can't remove the tarnishing area with our polishing cloth, here's a little trick for you.

Take your toothpaste (it should be non abrasive toothpaste) and apply a tiny amount of it on a soft cloth (don't use our polishing cloth).

Test first on some hidden part to see if the toothpaste is suitable to clean your jewelry.

If it doesn't damage the jewelry, then use it on the tarnishing areas and rub the jewelry in circular motions.

After the tarnishing area is cleaned, rinse the silver thoroughly with warm water and dry it with a clean cloth.
